Feeding and Watering accessories are must have items for any bird.
When selecting a dish keep in mind the following:
- Look for an appropriate size and style for your species. For instance some species of birds may not eat out of covered food dishes, while others will.
- Be sure that the dish or bottle will hold up to the destructive force of your bird's beak. For instance small acrylic dishes and bottles will be easily destroyed by a large parrot or macaw. Stainless steel or heavy ceramic crocks and glass bottles are a better fit for larger beaks.
- Be sure the dish can be secured to your specific cage.
- Hook style dishes can be easily disconnected by large birds and thus are better suited to finches, canaries, parakeets and cockatiels.
- Bolt on style dishes or heavy ring mounted crocks often work well for the larger birds.
- Water bottles often have different sized drinking tubes for specific sizes of birds. Be sure to purchase the correct size.
- Often times small birds are happy to eat from an oversized dish so if it fits in the cage it will probably work.
