Feeding Your Parrotlet
Much has been written on the topic of avian nutrition and it is always beneficial to educate yourself and decide what will work for you and your parrot.
When you first bring home your parrotlet, it is best not to drastically change its diet. Ask your breeder or pet store if you can purchase some of your bird's regular diet. Remember your parrotlet is just a baby and the most important thing when he first comes home is to get comfortable and begin eating and drinking.
If, after researching nutrition and discussing it with your avian vet, you decide to change your parrot's diet, it should be done gradually.
Food for Thought and Thoughts About Food
Imagine your favorite food. Is it chocolate ice cream, apple pie or piping hot pizza? Whatever the case, if it was the only thing you ate day after day, week after week, year after year it would be neither tasty nor nutritious. Think of your parrotlet. Though he may like that seed in his cup, it is neither healthy nor interesting if it's only thing he's offered to eat.
