Watch What They Eat - Foreign Objects and Toxic Substances

Parrots can be worse than toddlers when it comes to putting things in their mouths. Ingesting the wrong thing can lead to serious injury or even death.

Parrots natural want to chew and explore everything with their beaks. Do not allow them to ingest anything poisonous or indigestible.

Things such as paper, fabric or string are not poisonous but if swallowed can cause a blockage in the digestive system. Because parrots have a need to destroy things with their beaks it is common that bird toys are made from materials that can be dismantled. Please watch your bird and ensure that he is not actually eating the toy materials. Chewing, shredding and destroying are all fine but if you find that you bird is eating the toy parts remove the toy immediately and make sure that you bird is not injured or sick.
